GIRAF 14 - Suzan Pitt Interview with Heather Kai Smith

Suzan Pitt Interview with Heather Kai Smith

An accomplished painter, multimedia artist and icon in the world of underground animation, Suzan Pitt is known for her surreal, psychologically rich animated films. Works like 1979's Asparagus and 1995's Joy Street have been fixtures of independent animation programs for decades, captivating audiences with their odd beauty and haunting atmosphere.

Quickdraw had the privilege of hosting a retrospective of Pitt's work at our 2018 GIRAF festival of independent animation. Although she wasn't able to attend in person, she sat down for a conversation with Quickdraw member and founder of the Great Women Animators blog Heather Kai Smith. The result is a wide-ranging conversation that touches on Pitt's long and varied career. Originally shown at the GIRAF screening, we're pleased to be able to present the interview here in its entirety.
